Schoolhouse Style Lodging in Lyon

Writer: RachaelRachael

We spent one night in Lyon in order to catch the Fête des lumières celebration (highly recommended!) and chose the Collège Hôtel as our home base. The 40 room hotel is just across the bridge from the city center in a vibrant area with restaurants and shops. It’s near transit, but it’s easiest to walk across the bridge (~5 minutes) to get into the main area of Lyon. The hotel features a schoolhouse-style theme with decor that feels nostalgic and playful. We especially enjoyed the common areas, which included comfy leather sofas, giant colored pencil decor, schoolhouse desks, and vials of French wine for sampling.

Where is this place? The Old Lyon District in Lyon, France

When did we go? December 2023

What’s good? The rooms are simple, but comfy and clean with quality beds and showers. We stayed in a simple double room that was pretty minimal, but nice. It would have been fun if they extended the school-house theme to the actual rooms a bit more instead of just in the common spaces.

Is it gluten free friendly? The breakfast at the hotel had a few different options including cereals, breads, eggs, yogurts, and meats. We enjoyed eating in the cafeteria style setting where Toast was welcome.

Toast’s opinion? Pets are only €15 per night extra and are bookable when you make your reservation online. Toast was welcome in all spaces of the hotel and seemed to enjoy her stay although we didn’t get any extras like treats or dog beds.

Verdict: Collège Hôtel is a convenient and comfy hotel with schoolhouse charm that is a great pet friendly option in Lyon’s Old District.
