If you’re looking for a romantic gluten free meal in Paris, Le Coupe-Chou is a great choice. The restaurant is located in an old building composed of four houses dating from the 14th, 16th and 17th centuries. Think cobble stones, narrow doorways, uneven flooring, and winding stairs to ancient cellars. The main dining area is small and intimate, warmed by a giant fireplace that was actually working when we visited. Even if you don’t need to use the bathroom, it’s worth it to wander downstairs and explore the ancient setting. Although the menu isn’t entirely gluten free, it is very well labeled and there were lots of options.
Where is this place? Le Coupe-Chou is located in the 5th arrondissement
When did we go? December 2023
What’s good? The menu changes regularly, but is always well labeled. During our visit, we ordered one duck main, one beef main, and a vegetable side, all of which could be made gluten free. All the dishes were very classic French and extremely delicious. Sadly, they did not have gluten free bread, but the regular version was fantastic. The wine selection was fairly large and our waiter was very helpful in selecting something that paired well with our food. The creme brûlée for dessert was divine!
Toast’s opinion? The waitstaff was mostly French speaking so communication wasn’t always clear, but they seemed to love Toast. We indicated we would have a dog with us while making the reservation and they set aside a special table with a corner nook for her to put down a blanket and relax during the meal.
Verdict: Le Coupe-Chou provides the right ingredients of French cuisine and history to make the perfect romantic Parisian gluten free date night.
