We stumbled upon L'Eden Libre de Gluten, a  lovely gluten free bakery located in an adorable square in the Strasbourg city center, during our recent trip centered around Christmas markets. This 100% gluten free bakery offers a variety of tasty treats including fresh baked breads, snacks, pastries, and most adorably travel cakes. Because we visited during the festive season, they also offered gluten free mannele, small person-shaped bread made from enriched dough that are made in Eastern France to celebrate Saint Nicolas. In addition to the freshly made baked goods mentioned above, L’Eden also operates a small grocery store which features local packaged goods of the gluten free variety.

Where is this place? L'Eden Libre de Gluten is located in the Strasbourg city center although they appear to have a location in Obernai as well

When did we go? December 2023

What’s good? We visited L’Eden twice during our short stay in Strasbourg and sampled a variety of items including, a focaccia sandwich, a pretzel, a baguette, a holiday fruit cake, a travel cake, of course, a mannele. All of these items were absolutely delicious. Indy really enjoyed the texture of the baguette and focaccia and I was a huge fan of the chocolate chip travel cake. The only thing that wasn’t amazing was the fruit cake, but honestly when is fruit cake ever amazing?

How are the croissants? Sadly this bakery does not appear to offer croissants, but we think they should consider adding them to the menu.

Toast’s opinion? Toast was welcome in the bakery and also enjoyed the treats we purchased on the train.

Verdict: L’Eden provides a true paradise of baked goods in Strasbourg that enables the celiac and gluten intolerant to enjoy festive treats with their gluten loving friends.
