One of the reasons Les Bains feels like such a luxury experience is that the building the hotel occupies has a history of indulgence. Initially opened as a public bathhouse in 1885, the space served as an iconic nightclub known as Les Bains Douche, attracting famous guests like Andy Warhol, Linda Evangelista, David Bowie, and Grace Jones. Think Studio 54 but in Paris. The nightclub closed in 2011 and in 2016, the building was renovated and revitalized to open again as a 39-room hotel. The venue still hosts club events and concerts, but it’s more of an afterthought than the main reason to visit. Right across the street from the hotel, Les Bains has a shop where you can buy their signature fragrances in various forms such as candles, cologne, and bath products.
Where is this place? On a cute side street in the Marais (3rd arrondissement) in Paris
When did we go? December 2023
What’s good? The hotel is extremely comfortable and chic with a low lit opulent feel. The beds and showers were both great (sorry we neglected to get photos). We stayed in two different rooms and one of them had a pretty fantastic tub; however, this amenity isn’t really needed because all guests get access to the spa in the basement of the hotel featuring a steam room, soaking pool, and lounge area.
Is it gluten free friendly? Yes! We had breakfast at the hotel a few times during our stay and there were always gluten free options on the menu including gluten free bread that was decent but nothing to write home about. The free macaron treats provided upon check-in are also gluten free.
Toast’s opinion? Toast was greeted with enthusiasm when we arrived and was provided with a very comfy dog bed, bowl, and treats. We really enjoyed that the staff took the time to learn her name and always welcomed us when we returned back to the hotel from a city excursion.
Verdict: Les Bains is a comfortable and convenient home base for a Paris adventure with your pup.
