There are lots of takeaway crepe stands in Paris that sell galettes, but sadly not all of them offer gluten free versions of the traditional galette, which is typically made from buckwheat. One place that can guarantee a gluten free experience–with galettes prepared separately from their gluten-containing crepe cousins–is Marie Madeline. This place is super small and super simple, but the food is quality. They offer a large selection of fillings for the savory galettes. Customers can also order one of the sweet crepe fillings in a gluten free galette. We visited this establishment twice during our stay and both times were fantastic. We had one sit down breakfast, which was speedy and quaint. We also tried the takeaway crepes, which feel like they
Re the best way to experience this cuisine.
Where is this place? Tiny galette joint at 160 Rue Saint Martin, 75003 Paris, France (2nd arrondissement)
When did we go? December 2023
What’s good? We didn’t try any of the sweet offerings, but had a variety of savory options including eggs, ham, raclette, and chevre (note that the chevre is very French and very funky). The quality of the food is on par with Breizh (minus the cider pairings), but this is a quicker, cheaper, and portable option. We’d recommend checking this place out if you’re in need of a galette-to-go.
Toast’s opinion? Toast was welcome in both the sit down and takeaway visits. She like the ham, egg, and cheese crepe the best.
Verdict: Marie Madeline is a hole-in-the-wall gluten free galette-to-go option that is not to be missed.
