The Quest Continues at Noglu

I will admit that we didn’t have high expectations for Noglu because it is an international chain with a somewhat kitschy name and a “Keep the Gluten Away” sign near the bathroom. The Google reviews also aren’t great. Despite our initial doubts, we really enjoyed Noglu. In addition to the large selection of baked goods in the window that you can order to go, they also offer a selection of breakfast and lunch dishes like avocado toast, porridge, chia pudding, and sandwiches.

Where is this place? Noglu is a 100% gluten free bakery and cafe chain with locations in Paris and New York. We visited the location at 69 rue de Grenelle in the 7th arrondissement.

When did we go? December 2023

What’s good? I will admit that we didn’t have high expectations for Noglu because it is an international chain with a somewhat kitschy name and a “Keep the Gluten Away” sign. The Google reviews also aren’t great. After pursuing the impressive case of baked goods in the window, we ordered coffee and a trio of bread products: an olive baguette, a simple plain croissant, and a pistachio pastry that we can’t seem to find on their online menu. The olive bread was very flavorful on its own, but also would have made a delicious sandwich with some cheese and pesto. We honestly don’t remember much about the third item other than it being sort of like a spiral version of a croissant with pistachio filling. We’re going to try and take better field notes on future excursions.

How are the croissants? The croissants at Noglu might have been our favorite from this trip to Paris. They displayed decent layers without too much separation and no gumminess. These pastries were definitely on the smaller side and had a crisp, light taste. See the video below for Indy’s official review.

Toast’s opinion? Toast was welcome in the cafe. Customers seemed to love her, but the waitstaff was a bit aloof.

Verdict: Noglu was no joke when it came to croissants. We’re excited to see if the New York location lives up to the quality of its Paris counterpart.
