The Nomad Design and Lifestyle Hotel was our home base for five nights while visiting Basel this winter. The hotel is very trendy and chic with design-centric rooms and thoughtful common spaces and delightful amenities. The rooms were spacious with a decent amount of seating, a large modern bathroom, and a comfy bed adorned with two linen duvets. Outside the room, there is a very convenient coffee, tea, and water station which makes late night hydration and early morning caffeination easy. The hotel gym located in the basement features wood paneled exercise equipment and a lovely sauna that you can book at the front desk (probably Rachael’s favorite amenity). When you stay at the Nomad, you get lots of little eco-friendly extras like a prepaid Basel card for transit, glass water bottles, and an upcycled shopping/wet bag (super handy when it’s rainy). There is also a gift shop in the lobby where you can buy cute and goofy local wares.
Where is this place? Central Basel just a short walk from the Basel central station
When did we go? December 2023
What’s good? The location and the vibe are what sets this hotel apart. It was raining during most of our trip, but coming home to the Nomad to warm up in the sauna or enjoy a cappuccino in the restaurant/bar made a drizzly trip cozy and fun.
Is it gluten free friendly? The breakfast spread at the hotel offers a number of gluten free options including yogurt, soft boiled eggs, granola, meats, cheese, and fruit. We were told you could ask for gluten free bread at breakfast and we did daily, but it was only delivered about half the time.
Toast’s opinion? The hotel was very pet friendly and Toast wasn’t the only pup in the hotel during our visit. The staff was always warm and welcoming.
Verdict: The Nomad is a trendy spot with an eye for design; it’s a good option for gluten free travelers with tiny poodles.
